Cool Stuff: 1966 Batmobile Replica And Original 1966 Yamaha Batcycle Listed For Sale Together
From Carscoop:
We might be approaching the 50th anniversary of the campy 1966 Batman television series with Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin, but there's still a lot of interest about the show and its mechanical stars like the famed Batmobile and to a much lesser extent, the Batcycle.
The original 1966 Batmobile based on the 1954 Lincoln Futura Concept remains in the hands of its creator, George Barris, but over the years, many enthusiasts have built replicas of the car.
These include the one you see pictured here that is listed for sale together with one of the original Batcycles from the series at RM's upcoming auction "The John Staluppi Collection" on December 1, 2012.
As a bonus feature, the replica has been hand signed by the stars of the 1966 Batman television show, including Adam West, Burt Ward, Lee Merriweather, and Julie Newmar.
Whereas the Batmobile is simply a recreation built after the show, the Yamaha-based Batcycle listed for sale was actually featured in the television series.
Batman's bike was originally based on a 1965 Harley-Davidson, but it was leased only for the first season episode. Later in the same year, a new bike entered the series. It was produced by Kustomotive, conceived by Dan Dempski, designed by Tom Daniel, and built by Dan and Korky Korkes using a Yamaha Catalina 250.
It shows 8,250 original miles (13, 274 km) on the odometer and according to the seller, it retains almost all of its original components, including the removable side car.
RM auctions said it expects the two models to be sold together for somewhere around $125,000 to $175,000.(vía Carscoop)
